Year 3 Visit Alnwick Castle

This week as part of our Castles topic in History, all of year 3 got to storm the barbican and learn all about castle life on our trip to Alnwick Castle.

The children made clay tiles for the church floors working with artisans based in the castle, met Lady Percy and learn all about bring a knight like the famous Harry Hotspur.

The Scottish attackers stormed the barbican and had to break down the door, raise the drawbridge and lever up the portcullis! Eventually, they made it!  We also got to see the prison and oubliette where any captured soldiers would spend their days locked up.

It was great to see all the features of a castle that we have studied in class from turrets to battlements and curtain walls to moats.

Chaaaaaaaaaarge!
